CRV and VikingGenetics to collaborate in Holstein breeding

In order to provide a rapidly changing market with the right genetic offering now and in the future, CRV and VikingGenetics will exchange genotypes on breeding candidates for the Holstein breeding program.

By collaborating and exchanging genetic material, both companies aim to improve the quality and efficiency of their Holstein breeding programs. The cooperatives will also consider potential collaboration on projects related to methane emissions.

Customers of both CRV and VikingGenetics will now have access to a broader, high-quality genetics range in the Holstein breeding program. This guarantees healthy cows that help farmers boost their profits and meet climate targets. This will also further enrich the large, high-quality databases already available through NAV and AEU.

Angus Haslett, CEO of CRV: “VikingGenetics and CRV are both strong leaders in breeding healthy and efficient cows. This collaboration allows us to combine our strengths and be efficient.”

Louise Helmer, CEO of VikingGenetics: “We welcome the collaboration with CRV. There is a lot of world-class genetics in Europe, and our shared focus on breeding efficient, sustainable cows makes it natural to seek collaboration with our fellow cooperatives.”

CRV and VikingGenetics look forward to exploring possible synergies on the Holstein breeding programs and creating more value for our dairy farmers.

About Us

About VikingGenetics

VikingGenetics is a cattle breeding cooperative owned by more than 16,000 dairy and beef farmers in Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. We focus on animal welfare, food security, and reducing climate impact in our entire production chain.

We partner with universities, research organisations, and experts worldwide to give our customers—some of the world’s leading farmers — the tools and technology to select the best bulls and increase their profitability.

With our solutions, our customers can continuously improve the genetic gain for each generation of their herd. Our results are rooted in the long-term relationships with our farmers and the close link between research and implementation.

About CRV

CRV is a global herd improvement cooperative, owned by Dutch and Flemish cattle farmers. Our farmer-owners are heavily involved in the breeding program of CRV through the collection of cow performance data, genomic testing, and transplantation of embryos from elite donors produced at CRV’s Dairy Breeding Center in Wirdum.

CRV has focused for a very long time on improving health and efficiency in herds. That is why today, CRV is leading in Health & Efficiency. We contribute to proven improvement in the life of our farmers, their cows and the environment. We believe this is our responsibility, the reason for CRV’s existence.
